Allergy and Asthma

Why See Us For Treatment?

Millions of people experience the uncomfortable symptoms of seasonal allergies every year, such as itchy eyes or a runny nose. Others experience the life-threatening allergic reactions of food allergies or insect bites that could even induce chronic asthma. Here at Allergy & Asthma Associates, we work with individuals to greatly reduce these symptoms and more, to improve quality of life and reduce the recurrence of health issues that result from allergies and chronic lung disease.

What To Expect

For an accurate diagnosis, we use allergy skin tests. Various blood tests may miss true allergies by up to 25-30%, and in some cases they may overdiagnose food allergy. Skin testing for food allergies could help guide trials of specific food avoidance.

A food diary may be helpful. Treatment is primarily strict avoidance by careful reading of food labels. An EpiPen should be available at all times for people with potentially life-threatening reactions.

Symptoms:

  • Oral Itch
  • Hives
  • Swelling of the mouth, tongue or throat
  • Sometimes a wheeze and cough, especially in infants and children

Sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Please note: food “intolerance,” which is not an actual food allergy, also may give gastrointestinal symptoms.

Common Food Allergens:

  • Proteins in milk
  • Peanut
  • Eggs
  • Wheat
  • Soy
  • Tree nuts
  • Fish
  • Shellfish

Come visit us at Asthma and Allergy Associates to better understand what’s causing your symptoms and discomfort.

Testimonials

“I was so nervous going here today because I have never been allergy tested. I found out that I have very sensitive skin & I’m allergic to NSAIDs. Dr. Wendelborn is very informative & took the time to explain everything. I would highly recommend his office for your allergy & asthma needs. I had a great experience from the minute I made contact with his office. The receptionist was very nice today and so was the clinical staff who took good care of me. They also explained every step as they did it so I knew what to expect. Keep up the great job!”

““I can’t say enough great things about my experience here! The woman who roomed me and did all the testing was wonderful! She was gentle when doing the pokes on my back and gave me a heads up on which area of the back might be a little more sensitive. Dr. Konz was also so wonderful! She was also very sweet and genuine. I was very comfortable and so open with her. She took her time in the room and didn’t come in, test quick and get out. She spent extra time with me talking things through and was very thorough!””
